Task 1: Understand what pH is.

pH = potential of hydrogen

What is pH? pH is how acid is measured.

How do you measure pH? The pH value can be measured using electrochemical measuring systems, litmus paper, or indicators and colorimeters.

What is the scale of pH measured on? pH is a measure of how acidic/basic water is. The range goes from 0 - 14.

What pH level does water have? Is water acid, basic, or neutral? Neutral

What is the most acidic pH level? It is 0

What is the most basic pH level? It is 8-14

0-6 is acidic

7 is neutral

8-14 is basic

0 battery

2 lemon juice

3 grape juice

4 tomato juice

5 soft drinks

6 saliva/urine

7 pure water

8 sea water

Atom = simplest form of matter

Bases = have hydroxide ions

When things go into water they dissolve and become acids and lose 1 electron.

Task 2: Doing experiment

Aim/Purpose: Test the pH levels in different household products.

Equipment: Well Plate, pH strips/litmus paper,pH chart table (0-14),Dropper

Products: Baking soda, distilled water, window cleaner,toilet bowl cleaner, lemon juice, milk, orange juice, apple juice, vinegar, detergent,tea/coffee

Geronimo Stilton, Secret Agent - Home learning Reading

 

Hello everyone, it's me Finau and welcome back to my blog. This blog post is about my home learning reading. We had to choose a chapter from a book and predict what might happen in the next chapter.

Summary: Geronimo woke up in the morning to a suspicious mouse. He was just standing their watching him. HOW ODD? He ignored it and ate his breakfast. He went to the train station (to get to his job) and the suspicious mouse was there again. He was kind of scared. He kept on walking and when he got off the train and saw him again. HOW STRANGE? He went to work and he saw him again. He ran back home and he was still there. Geronimo yelled out "who are you?".

Prediction: I think that it might be some Geronimo knows and he might be surprised with who it actually is.

Term 3 Immersion Assembly

Today is the start to Term 3. We went to our school immersion Assembly. How theme for this term is "Healthy Me, Healthy You". I will be sharing some highlights from the Assembly. 

My highlight was watching the team 5 teachers doing their performance. It was really funny and had heaps of action. Miss Hill shared this routine that involved bouncing a big ball. Mr Moran's routine had a hoola-hoop. He swung it around his neck and his wrists. Last of all was Miss Hall. She did gymnastics routine. 

My second highlight was watching Miss Hall doing cartwheels around the stage. It was very entertaining and fun to watch. Who knew we had an amazing gymnastic teacher?! 

My last highlight was watching all the other teams's videos and seeing what they were doing for this term. Team 4 shared a funny exercising video Team 2 showed some exercises, Team 3 showed a healthy life style as well as Team 1. All teams had relatable, similar videos that covered everything.

Talent Quest/PES Got Talent!

 Hello everyone, it's me Finau and welcome back to my blog! Last week our House Captains hosted the Talent Quest. Everyone was very excited about it. Me too! Everyone's performance was amazing, wonderful, awesome, entertaining and much more. Some of the acts were not able to go up and perform because of time but the acts that didn't get to perform will have a chance next term (which is Term 3 and today is the last day of Term 2. This term was pretty chaotic and fun). 3rd place was Sione and Remus (their act was singing), 2nd place was Cullai (his act was dancing) and our 1st place winners were the Royalties, Melemanu, Kingston, Paula, Lesieli (their act was dancing). Task 1: Osmosis

Photosynthesis is a process in which plants make their own food.

Parts of a Plant:
Flower
Stem
Leaf
Roots

Plants produce food like sugar and oxygen but they only give us oxygen not sugar.

Leaf is where the photosynthesis takes place.

Stomata of tiny pores on the back of leaves and takes on carbon dioxide.

Xylem helps the water move up the plant and Phloem helps food move in different parts of the plant.

Transpiration

Evaporation of water in plants.

Task2: Experiment: Celery and Food Coloring Experiment

Ingredients:
Celery

Water
Food colouring
Beaker

Scissors

Purpose: To see water move from roots to the leaves through Xylem.

Method (steps/instructions):
Fill up the beaker with water and add food coloring.
Get celery and cut the roots.

Put the celery in the water and stir it around.
Get a plastic bag and a twist tie and tie the twist tie around the celery but only at the top where the leaves are.
Once you have done it do not spin it too much or else you will not see the water movement. This will take some time.

Making Bubbles with Dish-washing Soap & Water

 

Hello everyone, it's me Finau and welcome back to my blog. So I was going to wash the dishes but before I did that I put dish-washing soap and water in a bowl. I wanted to see what happened if I blowed the straw on the side. Guess what happened? Bubbles started forming. I noticed that the bubbles looked like cubes in the inside and that's what I learnt a tech at science class.  My sister showed you step by step how to do it. Task 1: The science behind bubbles.(watch a video/take notes)
Bubble liquid is made out of bubbles and water. You use a bubble wand to blow bubbles out. Don’t blow too hard or else you will blow that liquid out so blow slowly. The bubble is like a sandwich. The bread is the soap and the filling is the water. You also need air so that you can make a bubble. You can not blow water and make bubbles because water is made out of particles and sticks together. If you blow bubbles with a triangle wand, it will still be a round bubble because of the water. The water sticks together and doesn’t separate.

Task 2: Watch a video about bubble tricks.
Caterpillar, get a straw and blow bubbles on top of each other.
Bubble Carousel, blow two medium size bubbles and then blow small bubbles to make seats.
Cube Bubble, blow two medium bubbles and then blow 4 small bubbles around it. Stick your straw inside and blow gently to make a cube.

Task 3: MAKE BUBBLES!
Purpose: Making bubbles.
Equipment: a set of scales, 250ml beaker, a calibrated syringe, a stirring rod.
Method:
Fill the 250 ml beaker half full, that is measure 125 mls water. Weigh 5 grams of sugar. Measure 3 mls of glycerol and add to the solution. Stir it all together and blow the bubbles gently.
