SLJ/WK 2 - Bridge Builder (bridge design IRL)

Hi everyone! My name is Finau and welcome/welcome back to my blog.

I created a bridge design and tried to make one outside. It was quite fun, challenge, interesting to do. I'm very glad I had a few of the materials. This is a draft that I'm still working on so I hope that this bridge gets done or built in the next few weeks. As you can see the structure isn't very strong. I still don't know if I'll get it done. Vaha and Catherine helped out on this one. Make sure to check out the video!

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Please leave a positive comment.

(This is still a draft that I'm working on:))

  1. Kia ora anō Finau,

Great job constructing your bridge out of items! It looks good for a first draft. I wonder if someone could help you stick the pieces together so that it is super strong?

Is the arch on top a rail, or a part of the bridge to cross?

What have you learnt from this activity? It looks like a great way to practice and test your engineering skills!

    Ngā mihi,
    Lauren

    1. Hi Lauren!

Thank you for your comment. Thank you I enjoyed it. Yes I need help from my parents or my siblings.

Yes it is but I need to make is a bit more steady because I don't think any may car could cross that safely.

I learnt that you need a lot of patience and help from others. I also learnt about some shapes you could use to build a bridge (etc).

      Thanks again,
      Finau

    2. Kia ora Finau,

Awesome to hear you have been practicing patience and teamwork with this activity, they are super important skills for working with other people! It can be tricky sometimes though as everyone has different ideas.

Good luck making your bridge more steady, I'm sure your awesome knowledge of bridges will be helpful!

      Ngā mihi,
      Lauren

It is me Quein again, a blog commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. It is wonderful to see you all working together and enjoying the SLJ activities. You have put a tremendous effort into your blog post and your work- Ka Pai!!!! I am always impressed with you strong commitment and diligence to complete the tasks. It is always Great to see you take the initiative which is outstanding. Your bridge looks very cool and appears to be very strong and stable.

Did you know that the oldest bridge in the world that is still used is a slab-stone single-arch bridge over the river Meles in Izmir in Turkey, which dates from c. 850 BCE.

If you had to make a real bridge what materials would you use and why?

Keep up the Super work and really looking forward to your next post.

    Ngā mihi,
    Quein

    1. Hi Quien!

Thank you for your comment. Yes it really is. I'm glad you think that way about out project. Thank you for your positivity and support.

Wow! I might wanna search that up because it sounds pretty cool.

Maybe metal and wood something around that. That material seems very strong and steady. I think that would be a good piece of material.

      Thanks again,
      Finau, Vaha, Catherine:)

  3. Hi Finau,
It is awesome to see the process of you building it! Was it hard to keep it standing, or did it stand up well? Your siblings are very nice to be helping you. Great job as always,

    1. Hi Kiarah!

Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the process. Yes it was but it also stood up. It was because it was not like stuck together so that why it sort of fell apart n the process. Yes they are very nice for helping out.

      Thanks again,
      Finau

I am student at St Patrick's school. I loved the way you have used wood to build your bridge and got your siblings to help you. You have done an amazing job doing this process. Have a blessed day and God Bless.
