SLJ/WK 2 - Bridge Builder (bridge design IRL)

 Hi everyone! My name is Finau and welcome/welcome back to my blog. 

I created a bridge design and tried to make one outside. It was quite fun,challenge,interesting to do. I'm very glad I had a few of the materials. This is a draft that I'm still working on so I hope that this bridge gets done or built in the next few weeks. As you can see the structure isn't very strong. Tech @ Tamaki Hard Materials - Mask

 Hello everyone, it's me Finau and welcome back to my blog! This week for hard material we made masks. Not ones you wear to keep safe/over your mouth and nose, one you probably use for a party or costume. Mr Grundy shared some of his designs and how to make one. We pressed a piece of paper against our nose and face. We got our pen and marked our eyes gently. We did some extra marking on the mask then cut it out. My ones did not come out as I expected but I continued making them. I improved just a bit. This activity was super fun. We laughed and shared our unique designs. I hope you have enjoyed this post. Extension Term 4

Last term was lockdown so it was pretty hard at home and to get things done. For extension we focused on our scratch projects about controversial topics on Olympics. We have also moved into term 4 during lockdown. We are learning and focusing about Our Voice Our Choice, and about the environment and how we can take care of it. We have also had this great opportunity of designing a mini Whale Tale (search Whale Tale 2022) The Bryde's Whale are one of the endangered animals in NZ. How we use devices now days

Nowadays everyone if using devices and are connected to it. Since pandemic happened, we needed something so that we can connect with others.

There is technology everywhere. Kids and adults use it. Everyone started to use it in their daily lives due to pandemic. Plus, a lot of things we need, want, etc are all over the internet.

Everyone has access to the internet and social media so they post whatever they want. 

Everyone carries or uses them everywhere they go. This is a repeated process we all do, scroll through social media or are plugged into devices.

There is what we do now and it is quite normal to have a device and use it all the time. This is how we connect, talk, share, post with others now. It’s a part of our life but it is important to at least take a break from devices.

100 Word Story (The Great Wave Off Kanagawa)

As I glanced at the painting something felt off. The water in the painting looked like it was moving. The water was swaying from side to side. I thought I was just hallucinating so I walked away, just as I walked away I felt a little splash of water hit my back. I turned around to check on the painting, water was coming out of the painting. I couldn’t believe it! More water continued to come out and it wouldn’t stop. It was like a waterfall. The boat in the picture came out and almost ran me over. I ran out of the room but the water just kept on coming out and got bigger by the second.

Here are some useful ways of joining wooden pieces together that are used In woodwork and carpentry.

1. Housing joint.

a) Find a clear picture of this joint and insert it here.

c) Are there different kinds of housing joints?   Can you include pictures of them?

d) Can you find a housing joint anywhere in your house? My drawer 

2. Mitre joint.

b) What are mitre joints most commonly used for? Picture frames or Boards

c) Mitre joints are not very strong, how can they be made stronger? Maybe putting glue to make it stick together or probably nailing it together.

5. Mortise and Tenon joint.

b) What are Mortise and Tenon joints most commonly used for? Tables,Chairs,Windows, and other furniture. 

c) What makes the Mortise and Tenon joint so strong? Because of its fitting and flushing size. The 2 tenons are right next to each other and fit into each other which makes it stronger.
