Summer Learning Journey/Week 1 :Quality Blog Comment

Before comment:

After Comment:

Hey everyone, it's me Finau and I'm doing another activity for the summer learning journey. This is my third one. It is about blog commenting and how to write a quality blog comment.  The first photo above is the one I first (Sulia) did but I had to watch the video first, oops! So then I did another one. The second photo is my second comment that I did on Honey's blog.

Why I think my blog comment is a quality blog comment.

I greeted them nicely and said something nice about the work. I was being positive. I was then trying to think if that was something I knew or did and tried to make a connection. I also asked them a question and gave then some ideas and advice they maybe would need to make their work successful. Finally, spelling, proofreading and making sure that the comment makes sense.

I hope you enjoy this blog post and learn how to write a quality blog comment, Bye!

Summer Learning Journey/Week 1 : Fishing False Teeth (literacy)

Overall from my comic I'm proud of it (because I like it and it's funny). I hope you enjoy this blog post. Please leave a positive comment on my blog. Bye!

One of my highlights from extension was Secret Santa (which was this term). We Gathered up together and had shared lunch. We gave everyone our gifts and ate and ate! We danced and sang to Tik Tok Songs. Hehe! Secret Santa for 2020 was a blast!

My second highlight was performing a dance in front of extension group. Kiarah, Angelica and I did a South American Dance. I was a bit shy but I stilled did it. I thought our dance was pretty cool as well as the others. Everyone got a good mark! Yay!

Art Alive Art Exhibition

Hi everyone, it's me Finau and this is my art project. We had to draw patterns about Maori, Niue, Samoa, Tonga and Cook islands. Here are the meanings. I will tell you something we did today.

Maori:

Koru: The Koru means new beginnings and harmony and growth. How that means to me is whenever it is like a new years eve, my family and I stay up together and celebrate new beginnings.

Kaperua means all things doubled. People say we look alike and that we are twins (we are not).

Niue:

Hiapo: The Hiapo design looks kind of like the designs we do on our tapa cloth or ngatu in Tonga.

Frangipani: This means devotion to someone. What it means to me is that in Hawaii we always were flowers like that to special events and yeah.

Samoa:

(Tusili'i) That means coconut leaves. In Tonga we use coconut leaves to build roofs on the houses back in the day.

(Fa'a moa fai) It means a flower blooming. On the 4th of July in Tonga we celebrate a festival called the Heilala festival. The festival is named after the national flower of Tonga called “Red Blossomed Heilala or Heilala flower’’.

Tonga:

Manulua is another Tongan pattern. It is one of the oldest designs in polynesian art. Manulau is a bird in Tonga and it is similar to a flower. It also means bringing 2 groups of family together. I think that is important to me because my family and my niece’s family love spending time with each other.

The Dove is on the Tonagn sila. It means God’s peace and how that means to me is that I love going to church and learning about god.

The Stars are on the Tonagn sila. It means the 3 main islands of Tonga, Tongatapu, Vava’u and ha'apai.

Cook Islands:

Ra is the Sun. It means a source of light and clear direction. How this means to me is (I hope you understand) like to feel like I have a clear future in front of me.

Tiare Flower means queen of all flowers and I would love to be the queen of flowers so I can smell and have flowers.

Matau Rua is a fish hook. It means love and in my family I have learnt to love everyone.

So now that you all the meanings I can tell you what we did today. We had our art exhibition at our school. We walked around all the other kid's classrooms and saw there artwork. One of my favourites was Team 2 (year 2 & 3) and Team 5 ( year 7 & 8). There ones were really creative, colourful and just awsome! Overall I loved everyone's art and it was supper fun. I hope you enjoy this blog post. Please leave a positive comment on my blog. Bye!

Shipwreck! (Creative Writing)

Bermuda Triangle.. Ummm… Have you ever heard that? Well it’s like this dangerous place in the Atlantic Ocean. No one wants to go there but some people did go there. Don’t tell your kids or other children, they will cry and cry and cry! Lots of people go there and they never come back. That’s why it’s scary and dangerous. The 3 main countries that form the Bermuda Triangle are, Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico. Now you know a few things about the Bermuda Triangle let me tell you a story about a few survivors who went on a boat from Florida to Bermuda.

One of the survivor's names was Jerold. 4 people (including him) went on a ship to Bermuda and they were in Florida. They knew that this was a risky move, you don’t know if you die or don’t come back. It was such a difficult choice to make because they weren't gonna see their families ever again. They agreed to do it. They had to travel to Bermuda because that was on their bucket list for all the countries they want to visit. They thought they were crazy and indeed they were but they just did it. They hugged and waved their families goodbye. They all cried and cried. The ship left.

They traveled and traveled. It was very far and they felt like regretting this decision but they were already on the ship. All they did was just lay down and sleep and dream. They dreamed about them on this journey and about their families in Florida. Jerold had one crazy dream.

He thought that they were gonna die and his family was gonna end up on the streets. He only works and the mother stays at home and does work at home. He almost had a heart attack but his mates got seawater and tipped it on him. He woke up and told them what he dreamed about. They were scared and wanted to go back home. What were they gonna do? Oh no!

Jerold ran up the stairs on the ship and tried to turn the wheel but instead they went backwards and it hit a big rock. Opps! The ship started going down. They all tried to get up high and find things to float on. One of Jerold’s friends. Chad brought a phone and lots and lots of life jackets. Jerold and his other mates thanked him.

They all take one life jacket each and put it on. They were still holding onto a log or wood from the ship. Gary (one of Jerold’s mates) stored a tiny camera in the ship. They tried to connect it to Chad’s phone. They finally did and saw what the shipwrecked look like. They were so grateful that they survived but there was one more problem, they were cold! One way was to get as close as to each other to get warm (real thing and one of Jin’s ideas. Jerold's friends).

Jerold thought and thought. He was wondering about how they would get back home but suddenly a big gush of wind and I mean a big one blew all 4 of them away. They went in this strange direction. They kept on going to the left, then to the right and then straight. They got back in 4 days. That was weird because when they went out in the first place, it only took 12 hours but now that it has been 3 days, that’s shocking.

All 4 of them gasped and were in sweet relief. They weren't stuck in the sea anymore. Yay! They walked for about 30 minutes until they found a bus stop. They waited there just for a bit and a bus finally came. They walked home for like 15 minutes. Their families heard something and opened the door. It was Jerold, Chad, Gary and Jin! All the kids, wives and relatives hugged them and welcomed them in. They were so happy to be back at home.

There is no better place than home.

Sweet, sweet home.

Hello everyone, it's me Finau and this is my writing task for today. We wrote about a picture that was a shipwreck. I wrote up to 679 words. I hope you enjoy my writing task. Please leave a positive comment on my blog. Bye!

Spy Kids! (Creative Writing)

Who do you think is better at fighting crime, kids are adults? Well I would say they are both very, very good but I think it would be…. Kids! Kids are very active and creative. There are actually 2 real siblings who actually fight crime. Carmen and Juni are the greatest kids spies in the world!

Carmen and Juni were just enjoying their afternoon until they received a call. They answer “Hello Carmen and Juni. This is Agent JN. There is a villain that broke out of Jail. He wants revenge from everyone, especially you 2 after you put him in Jail (Carmen and Juni thinking it is). Yep you guessed it, Wicked Ron. He is thinking of building a robot to destroy you guys and the headquarters. You need to stop him”. Carmen and Juni were all like yeah we got this and we are so ready. Soon they suited up. It takes about like a minute or so?

Everyone knows you can drive until you are 16 and up but Carmen is 13 and Juni is 8. They actually have their own car but it controls itself. The car is only for spies and man it is SPEEDY! They found the location of Wicked Ron’s HQ. If you were there you could hear so many things.  Things to do with building cars but he (Wicked Ron) was building a mega and huge robot.

Juni kept on bragging and saying he could break in but there were 2 big, strong bodyguards at the front door. Carmen said “So what were you saying?”(in a cheeky way). Juni is like umm… never mind. What were Carmen and Juni gonna do?

Carmen is the smart one and Juni is the funny one. Carmen thought and thought and thought until she had one of her brilliant ideas but it was simple but smart. She got a big trash can and threw it on the other side of them. Bodyguards are strong but some are not clever. Juni doesn’t care but thanks Carmen.

They sneak into Wicked Ron’s HQ. It was like a maze because Carmen cautcalet or found out there were 53 rooms. What! Is what they both would say but Carmen and Juni were acting like it was easy and actually it was. They guessed a number, 10! They ran to room number 10 and there he was. He might be a villain but not a clever one.

They needed a plan but nope, Juni ran into the door but Wicked Ron already opened the door so then Juni ended up tackling Wicked Ron to the floor. Carmen was so surprised. It was like her life flashed before her eyes! She picked up Ron and gave him a fist bump. She only does that when she is happy. Juni gave her a fist bump and a big smile. :)

They found his robot. OOOO… this was really good because they found it. All the other adults and leaders from the HQ (Carmen and Juni HQ). They took the big, mega robot to their HQ. Juni thought they were gonna destroy it but they kept it safe and didn’t use it. No one knows why they do it but the job was done by the Spy Kids!

Hey everyone, it's me Finau and this is my writing task for today (well yesterday). I had to wrote a story about a picture and the picture was Spy Kids! We had to write up to 500 words! 5 Top Tips for Year 6 Camp at Kawau Island!

Top tip 1: When you get onto the ferry hold onto your hat all else it will fall off board. That happens to loads of people but it will maybe (%5) land on top of the edge of this white thing?  If you are wondering why that happens, well because people play and swing their hat around. Plus when the boat goes very fast there is a whole lot of wind and water. SO just WATCH OUT!

Top tip 2: Once you get at the campsite start stretching and all that stuff because you will have to walk up killer mountain. It is so steep! At first you think it’s easy so you run but don’t because it's actually really tiring. Soon we reach our destination. Take a break and don’t play around (if you want to) because you will have to walk back the hill.

Top tip  3: At times at camp we will have to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. Come early to line up and sit up so your team can go first. Also, smile! :D If you don’t know what time to come then ask your teacher then they will tell you the time. Just for a bonus

Top tip 4: Whenever you do water activities please listen or also something will happen (it will also be LOL). If there is something like “Tilar to the sail!” then do it because some boats tipped over and people fell out. Hehe! Peter, Erin (the people you will meet if you are going to the year 6 camp next year), Mr Somerville and Mr Goodwin do most of the water activities.

Top tip  5:At night you might play in the spotlight. Don’t bring a torch or else Mr J will make you stand up and he will take it (but he will give it back). Lso stay close to the deck because you need to get back in time and watch out for little Wekas in the bushes. You will get into mega trouble.

“With these Top 5 tips you will have a great camp and there will be no problems. Tell your friends so that they won’t annoy you and so they won’t have a mental breakdown”.

Hello everyone, it's me Finau and this is my writing task for today. This week we went back to our normal classes. Yep, no room 678 but sometimes we will be that. Anyways I had to write 5 top tips fro camp. These are for the year 5s going camp next year. I Hop you enjoy my maths task. Please leave a positive  comment on my blog. Bye!

Art Alive Extension artwork

Hey everyone, it's me Finau and this is my art work for Extension. Let me tell you about what my art is about and what it represents.

The background represents where I am raised in, New Zealand. The same goes for the big tall mountain. There are a lot of mountains in New Zealand and I only climbed up 2. The tree with the Pohutukawas all over is something we have in New Zealand. I just love the Pohutukawas and there is some in my neighbourhood. The slippers on the sand have the New Zealand Flag on it. Lots of our clothing in New Zealand have stuff about NZ like kiwis or the flag and much more. The waka (boat) has a Tongan pattern on it. That represents my Tongan culture because the pattern,  just like the one up in the sky (in the picture). It is called a Manulua and Tokelau Feletoa. The Kiwi hiding in the bushes is a native bird to New Zealand. The flower it has on its ear is a Heilala flower. That is a special flower in Tonga.  Finally Bernard the bee. It was a popular toy back then in New Zealand but it still is (maybe).

I hope you enjoy my artwork and description. Please leave a positive comment on my blog. Bye!
